A cool brisk Friday saw the entire Olympic Conference gather at Rowan's west campus for this year's Conference Championship. A little different than other varsity races, this race allowed us to enter twelve runners instead of the traditional seven. Going into the meet, we knew Shawnee was the sure favorite to win the meet with second likely being either us or Seneca. When the dust settled, Seneca edged us out by three points for second place. The girls certainly raced though. All twelve saw their fastest time of the season, with ten of those being lifetime personal bests. The third place finish secured the American Divisional title since Shawnee and Seneca are not in the American Division. This marks the first time since 2010 that the girls have won the division.
Kate Rathman led the team and continued to solidify herself as one of the top runners in South Jersey, finishing third running 18:41(Her first time dipping under nineteen minutes). Sophia Eick ran an impressive 19:16 to finish eighth. Riley Gleason was our third runner for the first time this season running 20:08 to place twenty first followed by Shannon Young running 20:14 for twenty second place. KAte and Sophia both earned 1st team all conference honors, and Riley and Shannon earned 2nd team all conference honors. Kayla Fericy ran under twenty one minutes for the first time ever running 20:58 to place thirty eighth. Gabby Moraschi was next in for the team at 21:49. Angie Arnett and Alyssa Blackmon were both on the verge of running under twenty two minutes finishing in 22:07 and 22:09 respectively. Casey Wrightson wasn't far behind them running 22:12. Emma DellaFemina also was on the verge of breaking into a new barrier running 23:05. Chloe Pasquarello running 23:46 and Liz Powell running 23:57 finished our twelve runners.
