Well the dust settled on another day at Millcreek park, and we for once had awesome cross country weather. In both the JV rave and the Varsity race we saw some pretty awesome performances today. Let us first start with the JV race:
Kayla McAdams 22:52 (season best)
Belle St. Jean 23:17 (season best)
Casey Wrightson 23:40 (season best)
Nicole Tedesco 23:59 (season best)
Haleigh Heston (season best)
Emma DellaFemina (season best)
Angelina Rivera (lifetime best)
Faith Rivera (season best)
Lisa Wong (season best by over a minute)
JV Runner of the meet is Belle St. Jean with almost a 2 minute pr. That was some very gutsy racing.
The Varisty race saw some great things happen as well. This years team vs last years team would have lost 26-29. Still very close considering we are missing a few runners due to injuries.
Kate Rathman won her first BC Open title. Her time of 18:55 is #2 in school history. Kate becomes the 7th ladychief to win the BC Open. Monica Olkowski won in 1988 and repeated in 1989. Megan O'Leary won in 2004. Lisa Burkholder won in 2005. Alison Weeks won in 2006. Angela Weeks won in 2007 and Megan Lacy won in 2010 and repeated in 2011. So Kate gets to add her name to those former great Ladychiefs. The team had an uphill battle against Shawnee, with Shawnee coming out on top 49 - 62. Nikki Cliford ran a personal best time of 19:40 to place 4th over all. Her time was the fastest by a freshman this year and also eclipses the freshman school record at Millcreek held by Megan Charbeneau set in 2009(20:26). Sophia DeLuca (10th) had a great race running 20:43 which is also her best 5k ever. Our fourth runner was Alyssa Blackmon (15th) running 21:06 almost 1 minute 30 seconds faster than she ran last year. Adriana Sommese ran a season best time of 22:25 for 33rd place with Jaden Sweely also running her best ever 5k at 22:39 to place 35. Meghan Carroll completed the varsity squad running 22:52 to finish 38th.
Varisty Athlete of the meet is Kate Rathman for earning her first ever County title.
Next up for the team is the Olympic Conference Championship next Wednesday at Dream Park.
