Olympic Conference Championship

Our first official race at Dream Park. Luckily the course had dried out a bit, but the wind and dust made this race a challenging one. We knew Cherry Hill East and Shawnee would be the favorites for the team title, but a top 3 finish seemed within our grasp.

Kate Rathman took the lead early and never looked back. Running with Bishop Eustace's Katy Storti for the first mile and a half, it was at that point Kate decided to drop the hammer. By the 2 mile mark she had opened up a 60 m lead and never looked back. Running a lifetime best of 18:22, Kate became the 4th girl from Cherokee to win a conference title. Monica Olkowski won the BCSL race in 1989, Lisa Burkholder won the Olympic Conference Championship in 2003, Megan Lacy won the rac in 2010 and 2011, and now Kate adds her name to those Cherokee greats. Nicole Clifford was next in for he chiefs running 20:14 to place 13th. Alyssa Blackmon was our #3 running 21:14 to place 25th. Sophia DeLuca ran 21:31 to finishing 35th and our #5 runner was Kayla McAdams dropping over a minute off her best time to run 21:50 finishing 41st.

Other finishers were:

Adriana Sommese 22:17(pr) 50th

Meghan Carroll 22:34(pr) 57th

Belle St. Jean 22:43(pr) 63rd

Casey Wrightson 23:10(sb) 73rd

Nicole Tedesco 23:32(sb) 81st

Haleigh Heston 24:17(pr) 96th

This meet was an example of not everything going the way that we wanted to, but it is through the lessons learned today that will make us stronger in the future.

Kate Rathman and Nicole Clifford both earned 1st Team All Conference honors, and Alyssa Blackmon earned 2nd Team All Conference honors.

Runner of the meet was Kate Rathman.
