I always feel like the outdoor season really gets going at Penn Relays, and then it’s over in the blink of an eye. We had a tremendous finish to the indoor season. The girls were once again State Group 4 Champions in the 4x800m relay. At Indoor MOCs, the 4x800m relay team chose to run together despite qualifying in other events. Maddie Meder, Erin Healy, Sofia Recinto, and Alyssa Suriano ran 9:30.11 (#9 all-time indoors) to place second. This was Alyssa Suriano’s first race since severely spraining her ankle at the end of January.

The indoor season ended with a trip to Boston with the help of our Alumni Association. Not wanting to push Alyssa too much, we decided to run the same 4x8 that we ran at MOC's, a Distance Medley Relay of Maddie Meder(1200), Emily Couture(400), Sofia Recinto(800) and Erin Healy(1600m), and end the trip with the 4xMile team of Maddie Meder,

Maya Kumar, Erin Healy and Alyssa Suriano. The 4x8 ran 9:31.19 to place 17th(#10 AT), The DMR ran 12:24.22(#6 AT) to place 15th and the 4xMile ran 21:10.63(#3 AT) to place 13th. Maddie split 3:43.96 in the 1200m which is # 3 AT indoor 12oo split and Sofia Recinto split 2:16.25 in the 800m which is # 3 AT indoor split both from the DMR.

With twenty one top fifteen performances, it is safe to say this indoor season was one for the record books.

The indoor and outdoor seasons overlapped as the first week of practice was right before we left for Boston. The build up to Penn Relays has seen some pretty impressive marks. We have had really wide swings with the temperature. A week where the highs got into the low 90's followed by a week where the highs were in the 50's.

Night Racer # 1 was certainly one of the extremes where the temp was cold, misty and windy. Despite those conditions, we saw some pretty impressive marks. Some big time pr's were seen by Gabby Urban running 12:12.34 to place place 27th. That was a 31 second improvement. Sonal Patel had a 52 second pr running 13:16.56.

Our top girls wound up running really well. Alyssa Suriano ran 11:02.79 to place 2nd, Erin Healy 11:09.25 to place 3rd, Sofia Recinto 11:17.57 to place 4th in her first ever 3200m. That time is # 10 All Time Outdoors. Maddie Meder 11:25.46 to place 7th and Maya Kumar 11:33.23 to place 9th.

Then this past week we had three meets back to back. Tuesday was our very own Fast Times at Cherokee High followed by Batch meet # 3 and then the Penn Relays.

Fast Times saw some more great performances. Grace Bachman ran a huge pr in the 100m HH running 18.72. Freshman Ava Guarini opened her outdoor 1600m with a 5:30.33 to place 5th and Addie Lore did the sweep winning the shot put, discus and javelin. We also ran an almost all freshman 4x800. Freshmen Ella Holloway, Lilly Hazlett and Ava Guarini teamed up with Genisa John to place 3rd running 10:33.90.

Lastly we competed at Penn Relays this past Thursday. We had three relays running, the 4x800m, 4x100m and 4x400m. The weather for Thursday was near perfect. Great temperature and sunny.

The 4x800m was up first. This marked the 5th year that the 4x800m relay has gotten into Penn. With both our 4x8 and DMR teams getting accepted, I let the girls decide which event we would run. They opted for the 4x8. They accepted 80

Next up was Sofia Recinto who split 2:20.18 moving us up into 4th place handing it to Maddie Meder. Maddie also split 2:20.75 dropping one spot to 5th. The clock stopped at 9:22.69. With all the results combined the girls finished 17th, just missing the top 12 that make the COA race. That time is # 11 All Time Outdoors and was the fastest 4x8 we have run this year by 8 seconds.
